Film images taken by Thom Hogan. Most are slides that have been scanned using a desktop Nikon Coolscan and then processed using Photoshop. Note that these images have been resized, and depending upon how you’re viewing them, may be resized by the Web server, too.
Horns at Sunrise
This is Provia 100F, taken with a Nikon N90s and 17-35mm f/2.8 lens. Galen’s “magic” -1.7EV fill flash was used on the foreground to provide fill, while a Galen Rowell 2-stop soft-edge Graduated ND filter was used to hold back the sky and light at the top of the Cuernos (Horns).
Horns During the Day
Another view of the Cuernos (Horns), this time during mid-day. This is also Provia 100F, taken with a Nikon N90s and 17-35mm f/2.8 lens. A 2-stop soft-edge Graduated ND filter was used to hold back the sky.
Victoria Falls Sunset
Taken up the canyon of Victoria Falls from the Zimbabwe side. Minolta Maxxum with Sigma 500mm lens, Fujifilm 100 slide film.
Torres Rainbow
Thom’s mentor Galen Rowell had a fascination with photographing rainbows, so Thom set out to make a series of photos of Galen photographing rainbows (not as easy as it sounds, as Galen’s position and Thom’s position both need to be correct to show the rainbow). Nikon N90s, 70-200mm f/2.8, Fujifilm Provia slide film.
